Minority Rights Day is celebrated on December 18 every year in India. History of Minority Rights Day
Minority Rights Day is celebrated in India by the National Commission for Minorities which focuses on religious harmony, respect and understanding of all minority communities. On 18 December 1992, the United Nations adopted and adopted a statement on the rights of persons belonging to a religious or linguistic national or ethnic minority.

Ministry of Minority Affairs
On January 29, 2006, the Ministry of Minority Affairs was separated from the Ministry of Social Justice and Environment to focus more on issues pertaining to notified minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis and Jains. The Ministry reviews the entire policy and planning, coordination, evaluation and regulatory framework and development program for the benefit of the minority community.
National Minorities Commission
The Central Government established the National Minorities Commission under the National Minorities Commission Act, 1992. Five religious communities such as Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi are notified as a minority community. Various states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have set up Minority Commissions in their respective states. Its office is also located in the state capital.
The function of the State Commission is to protect and safeguard the interests of minorities provided by the Constitution and laws enacted by Parliament and the State Legislatures. That is why Minority Rights Day is celebrated on December 18 in India to educate the people and focus on the rights of minorities in India.
