The International Federation of Translators (FIT) was established in 1953. In 1991, FIT began celebrating International Translation Day to promote the identity of the translation community around the world.
Why is it celebrated?
On May 24, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring September 30 as International Translation Day. The significance of International Translation Day is to recognize and appreciate the role of professional translation in interconnected nations. This day is celebrated to demonstrate solidarity for the translation community around the world. This is an attempt to promote the job of translation in different countries and not necessarily for the Christian country only. In today's age of progressive globalization, translation has become an indispensable requirement for all countries around the world.
