World River Day is celebrated in many countries of the world including India. The day was started in the year 2005 with the resolution to protect the rivers. In countries including India, USA, Poland, South Africa, Australia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Canada and UK, programs are organized for the protection of rivers on World River Day.

Significance of World River Day

River water is getting polluted due to increasing pollution. Pollution has caused climate change which is causing many rivers to shrink. On World Rivers Day, millions of people and many international organizations are contributing to the protection of rivers. On this day people resolve that they will not pollute the rivers and save them from being polluted. The importance of rivers among the people these days also brings awareness towards its cleanliness.

On World Rivers Day, all countries come together to talk about the protection of rivers. This day is also celebrated like a feast. World River Day is organized in at least 60 countries around the world with a large number of people enthusiastically participating. It covers everything from river cleaning to river rafting.
