Every year on June 7, World Food Safety Day is celebrated around the world. The reason behind celebrating this day is to create awareness about food safety among those who suffer from serious diseases due to poor diet. Every year a theme is decided for this day. The theme for World Food Security this year, 2021, is 'Today's Safe Meals for a Healthy Time.' ('Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow'). This theme focuses on the production and consumption of safe food. Food security benefits people, the planet and the economy in the long run. History of World Food Security Day:

This day raises awareness about food security and the celebration of this day was announced in December 2018 by the United Nations General Assembly in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) work closely with other organizations in the field to celebrate World Food Security Day. The World Health Organization has decided to strengthen efforts towards food security to reduce the problem of diseases caused by malnutrition in the world.

Importance of Food Safety Day:

Food safety ensures that every step of the food chain from food consumption to production, storage and distribution of the first crop is completely safe. This increases the importance of Food Safety Day. According to the World Health Organization, one in 10 people get sick every year from contaminated food or food containing bacteria. About 3 million people die each year from food and waterborne diseases in developed and developing countries around the world.
