Children are the future of our country, not only the country but also the future of the world. But nowadays there are many children who are forced to work instead of going to school or playing. Doing this kind of work for children is a matter of concern. The day was started by The International Labor Organization in 2002 with the aim of spreading awareness against child labor and educating children under the age of 14 to get them out of forced labor.
On this day, all trade unions, service-oriented organizations and the government are committed to ending child labor. However, child labor remains the same. According to the International Labor Organization, about 152 million children are still forced to work worldwide. Most of them are working in dangerous situations. According to the 2011 census report of India, more than one crore child laborers are working in the country.
What is child labor?
Child labor is usually done by doing physical work without paying or paying wages to children. Child labor is not limited to India, it is a global phenomenon.
The cause of child labor
- According to UNICEF, children are exploited because they can be easily exploited.
- Poverty is a common and the main reason why children are forced to do hard work according to their age.
- In addition, other factors such as population explosion, cheap labor, non-enforcement of laws, negligence of parents towards sending their children to school (they are forced to send their children for labor instead of school so as to increase family income) are also responsible.
Child Labor Prohibition Day in India
Child labor is widespread in India. Child trafficking is also done here for child labor. The Central and State Governments are taking commendable steps in this regard. That is why the Child Labor Prohibition and Regulation Act was first passed in 1986. Under the law, it would be illegal to employ children under the age of 14. At the same time, Article 23 of the Indian Constitution does not allow children to work in hazardous industries and factories. Under Article 45, free education has been made compulsory for children up to the age of 14 in all the states of the country.
- In India, children have been considered a form of God since time immemorial. But the current picture is quite the opposite of these ideas. The future of children is becoming bleak. Poor children are laboring at the age of receiving an education in school.
- Over the last several years, the Government of India as well as the State Government have launched a number of schemes for the upliftment of children, which will have a positive impact on the lives of children as well as their education. The right to education is also a commendable work towards the abolition of child labor. Yet the problem of child labor is destroying their childhood as a complex problem.
